If you run an e-commerce store and pay for ads to bring people to your site, here’s something uncomfortable: about 99 out of every 100 visitors leave without buying. You already paid for them, and they’re gone.

The math of fixing that is simple. Even a 10% lift in conversion rate means:

Store sizeExtra revenue from +10% conversion
$1,000 a dayabout $3,000 a month
$100,000 a monthabout $10,000 a month
$1,000,000 a monthabout $100,000 a month

Same traffic, same ad budget, more money. So why isn’t every store doing it? In this article: why conversion rate optimisation (CRO) used to be only for big brands, how AI changed that, the exact four-step process we use, three real tests built with AI, and who it’s for.

My record with AI CRO

I’m a former head of growth at Karma and Luck, a nine-figure brand, and I own a seven-figure e-commerce brand. My professional record with AI CRO so far, for one single brand:

  • $7,000,000 in extra revenue
  • a 91% lift in conversion rate
  • 60+ A/B tests in 12 months

Why CRO used to be only for big brands

The traditional way is expensive and slow. Doing CRO properly takes a team of six:

  1. a strategist who decides what to test;
  2. a data analyst who reads the numbers;
  3. a marketer;
  4. a designer;
  5. a developer;
  6. a copywriter.

In the US, that team costs about $500,000 a year. A CRO agency costs $5,000 to $15,000 a month, and most still run just one or two tests a month. Only big brands could justify that.

How AI changed it: the four-step process

Step 1: find the leaks

AI helps us review your analytics and thousands of sessions in hours, to see exactly where people drop off: which pages get plenty of visitors but few buyers, and at which step of the funnel people leave. (What to look for at each step.)

Step 2: listen to your customers

AI analyses your reviews and surveys to find what stops people from buying. Customers are already telling you their doubts: will it fit, can I trust you, when will it arrive. AI groups those doubts so you can see which one is biggest.

Step 3: prioritise by money

Every test idea gets ranked by how much extra revenue it can bring. Not by how nice it looks, and not by the highest-paid person’s opinion.

Step 4: build, test, repeat

Design, code and copy are created with AI and reviewed by humans. What took a team weeks to build now takes hours. Then the test runs on real visitors, half on the old version and half on the new one, and the numbers decide.

Proof from my own stores

I’ve been in e-commerce since 2015. On my own high-ticket store, doing $50,000–$70,000 a month, I’ve already taken the conversion rate from 0.1% to 0.2%, which doubles revenue from the same traffic, and this year I’m heading towards 0.3%. At Karma and Luck we improved conversion rate by 50% in 12 months.

What I promise, and what I don’t

Let me be honest. I’m not promising to double or triple your conversion rate in a month. In most cases, that’s a scam.

What I promise is small, proven improvements that compound month after month into large extra revenue, while your advertising metrics improve too:

  • cost per add-to-cart goes down;
  • cost per purchase goes down;
  • ROAS goes up.

(Why a better store makes your ads cheaper.)

Three real tests, all built with AI

Every one of these was built with AI. No designer, no developer.

Test 1: homepage brand videos (+$58,094 in one month)

We added customer videos and a brand story video to the homepage on mobile.

  • Conversion rate: +12%
  • Revenue per visitor: +33%
  • Extra revenue: $58,094 in one month

The funny part: fewer people clicked Add to Cart, but the ones who did spent more. (The full homepage test.)

Test 2: a product page rebuilt around customer doubts (+13%)

We rebuilt the product page around what customers told us was stopping them from buying.

  • Conversion rate: +13%
  • For a store doing $100,000 a month, that’s about $13,000 extra every month.

Test 3: a video instead of a photo as the main product image (+$57,644)

  • Conversion rate: +9%
  • Revenue per visitor: +11%
  • Extra revenue: $57,644 from one change

I’ve done this kind of work for brands like Chatelier Cosmetics, a luxury cosmetics brand that was recently acquired, and Danielle Gerber’s brand, which went from zero to a multi-million brand. Now, with AI, it takes days, not months, for a fraction of the cost.

Who AI CRO is for

It’s for you if:

  • you make at least $100,000 a month (there, +10% conversion is about $10,000 more a month, around $120,000 a year);
  • you get 10,000+ visitors a month;
  • you can commit to at least six months of testing.

It’s not for you if:

  • you’re just starting out and don’t have traffic yet;
  • you want a magic button that doubles sales overnight;
  • you’re not willing to change anything on your site.

If you’ve been putting more money into ads hoping it will fix sales, the bigger opportunity is usually after the click. Start with the cheapest wins on your product page, and test every change.

Frequently asked questions

What is AI CRO?

Conversion rate optimisation where AI does most of the work: analysing analytics and sessions, reading reviews and surveys, ranking test ideas by revenue, and building the design, code and copy for each test, reviewed by humans.

Can AI really replace a CRO team?

It replaces most of the hours, not the judgement. AI builds in hours what took a team weeks; a human still decides what to test and checks every variant.

Who is AI CRO for?

Established e-commerce brands making at least $100,000 a month with 10,000+ visitors, who can commit to testing for at least six months.
